about U9A
WELCOME TO U9 SQUAD
U9 Cricket at Trojans
Our U9 section caters for players in Years 2 to 4 and is one of the most vibrant age groups in the junior section. We run two U9 teams to ensure every player gets the right level of challenge and enjoyment, from those just finding their feet in the game through to those ready to compete at the higher end of junior cricket.
All U9 cricket is played in a pairs format using a soft ball and light bat — a brilliant introduction to match cricket that keeps every child involved throughout. Teams of 6 to 8 players take to the field, with each pair batting together for 4 overs and each fielding player bowling 2 overs. Every pair starts with a score of 200 runs, and if a batter is dismissed the pair simply change ends and lose 5 runs rather than leaving the field — so nobody sits out and the game keeps flowing. It is a fun, fast and inclusive format that teaches children the fundamentals of cricket in the best possible way.
Both teams compete in the Serious Cricket Hampshire Junior Championships (SCHJC):
U9 A — Our A team is mainly made up of Year 4 players who are growing in confidence and ready for a real challenge. They compete in the U9 Tier 2 League — the most competitive tier of U9 cricket in Hampshire.
U9 B — Our B team provides a development-focused environment for players who are building their skills and growing their love of the game, competing in the U9 Tier 3 League where the emphasis is firmly on enjoyment, learning and progress.
All U9 training takes place on Friday evenings at the Trojans Ground, Stoneham Lane, from 5:30 to 6:30pm, starting from Friday 17 April. Matches are played on Sundays from 3 May onwards. 🏏
